What is the advantage to using different operating systems?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 443AA1WBBR

I know there are differences, but from what I have seen, windows, the mac os, and linux all tend to do the same thing, and all operate in a similar way. So why do people get windows installed on a mac? Or linux installed on a pc? What is the advantage of using one operating system over another?

My Answer

There is a tiny amount of malware that can even think about running on Linux as compared to Windows that there are over a million viruses and the same amount and more of spyware catagory threats. It is that much safer than Windows. It is too rare to even find an incident of the cyber criminal underground beaking into a linux systm to like commit an identity theft for example. It is just not a target as windows is ("where all the money is").

If Windows gets zonked by a virus and there is no connectivity, you can just reboot into Linux and as well Linux in the computer can diagnose and fix Windows messed up by malware. The windows malware does not run on Linux because it is different operating system code.

Using two oprating systems on one computer is called the dual boot system or simply dual boot.
